Tensions mount outside mosque ahead of protest

TENSIONS are on a knife edge in Wealdstone as anti-fascist protesters and members of the Muslim community wait for an anti-mosque protest to begin.

Hundreds of people are now strewn across roads surrounding Station Road, and have left the areas designated by police for the official protest by Unite Against Fascism.

Minutes ago, many of the protesters ran into Milton Road after an egg was apparently thrown off Civic 9 building.

Police quickly moved to disperse the people gathered in the small car park, but the protesters have now spilled into the street as tensions continue to mount.

Members of Stop the Islamisation of Europe are expected to arrive at Harrow and Wealdstone at around 5pm to begin a demonstratation they say is to commemorate the 9/11 terrorist attack victims.

Police officers are positioned at the station, ready to escort the protesters towards the area surrounding the mosque.

Anindya Bhattacharyya, a leading member of Unite Against Fascism, said their demonstration is an essential stand against fascism and racism, and he urged for it to be peaceful.

He said: “We feel if a group of people decided to demonstrate outside a synagogue, we would have their number.

“It is the same with these people. They are basically racists.

“It is very important to bring people of different communities together to stand in solidarity. We like Harrow being multi-cultural and multi-racial, and we are going to defend that.”

I personally don't object to anyone's religion, what I do object to is some religions taking preference over others when being taught, celebrated or welcomed in Harrow schools.
My daughter was told she could wear her crucifix but only if it was tucked into her shirt, yet other, more recognisable symbols of religion are welcomed. Christmas is a very played down affair compared to when I attended school in Harrow likewise, Harvest Festival is almost unheard of and how many children know the true meaning of Easter?
This is where the rub sets in and the leftist elite end up causing more damage than good. Indigenous people are going to be naturally angered when they see their heritage and culture being eroded, watered down or completely ignored in case it offends. There are parts of the Islamic culture which I find deeply offensive, especially from the fanatics/extremists but no one is interested in what may offend the indigenous of this country.
Harrow residents are continually spoon fed ''how we all enjoy living in a diverse town'' actually if you were to ask the majority of adult people this is not the case at all. We were never given a choice or a voice in it. Why is it only white people can be deemed as racist for daring to voice an opinion? I know Hindus who dislike the Muslims, I know Black people who dislike Asians and vise versa, yet the minute a white person comments it's seen as racist. I fear that unless we are giving a voice without the ''Racist'' card being brought into play things will only get worse.

Greatly saddened by the turn of events.Watched the images on telly with total disbelief!
Harrow has been our home for almost four decades and a lovely peaceful, friendly borough.
It is a matter of much shame and sorrow that some emotionally charged Muslim men, mostly not Harrovians, decided it was perfectly ok to take the law into their own hands and turn a peaceful protest into a disgraceful attack on the Police.
The Law was there to protect all of us and were targetted and attacked in an unthinkable manner. We are fortunate that they managed to prevent some dreadful incidents and controlled the situation skillfully. These people let all of us down.

Their selfish actions have made all respectful Muslims cringe. We dont need such hooligans coming to our borough. They dont belong here and must be made to realise that their appalling behaviour will not be tolerated by anyone in Harrow,Muslim or otherwise.

I am sure that our Harrovians who have a generous spirit ,will move forward as before,as ONE UNITED COMMUNITY,despite all the mischief-making we witnessed today.

It is inconceivable that this could happen in Harrow. All the same,we must stay together, despite the gravest provocation, and bond much more effectively---helpin
g those communities that need to our support to progress and prosper in this peace-loving borough which we all love.
Years of good relations built with blood ,sweat and tears cannot be wiped out by opportunists and anarchists.Harrovian
s are a resilient lot and will work even more closely to keep us all out of harm's way.

Take heart.Let us take stock, pick ourselves up and get on with the job of building the invincible community of Harrow.

Muslims are certainly unhappy with what occured. I couldn't agree more with the above post. But I would also like to say that Islam does not have a problem with other religions being preached and there is no compulsion in Islam. Muslim countries at the moment, are seen by Muslims as failing to adhere to Islamic law properly, therefore they do not represent what Islam is about completely. We do not agree with everything that takes place there and how laws are carried out. This is all a misunderstanding and misconception. Everyone should have a right to practice whatever religion they wish in Britain and wear whatever symbol of faith they wish. As a Muslim I only want peace and cohesion. Yes, many Muslims hold alternative views, but it does not mean to say that ALL Muslims are in the same boat. There is also no room whatsoever for Racism in Islam. It is sad that many are failing to portray Islam truthfully, by taking things out of context and placing wrong interpretations on things. I hope that the ignorant will be educated.
