The London Labour Party has claimed a group of Independent Labour councillors have put personal ambition ahead of the needs of the community.

The statement follows the appointment of a new cabinet by the authority's leader Councillor Thaya Idaikkadar with members of his new Independent Labour group and two Conservatives in non executive roles.

The Independent Labour group was formed after nine members split from the previous ruling Labour group two weeks ago, after Cllr Idaikkadar had been voted out as leader of the Labour group.

Speaking to the Harrow Times, a spokesperson for London Labour Party said: “After failing to get their own way in a proper democratic, open and fair vote, nine Harrow councillors have chosen to join with Conservatives to form an administration which the people of Harrow clearly did not vote for.

"It is a matter of regret that they used the Labour Party to get elected but have now put their personal ambition ahead of the needs of communities they are supposed to represent.

"We are taking steps to ensure that when the people of Harrow have a chance to vote, Labour will have candidates of the highest quality and integrity who will work hard to put the interests of Harrow first.

"Harrow residents can be assured that we will do everything possible to restore good governance, democratic values and accountability across Harrow at the earliest opportunity. Harrow deserves no less."
