Name: Nahid Boethe

Candidate for: Harrow East

Party: Liberal Democrat

Votes: 6,850

Nahid Boethe is a married fashion advisor, who was born in Iran and moved to Harrow in 1977.

The mother-of-two was educated locally, and gained a BA Hons degree in politics and social policy from the University of Hertfordshire, in 2001.

In 1992, she joined the Liberal Democrats and was elected as a Harrow councillor in Greenhill ward in 1994, serving until 1998 as chair of Housing Tenants Consultative Committee, deputy Lib Dem whip, and on social services, education and environment committees.

Nahid has served as a governor at Norbury School, has been a trustee of Victim Support Harrow and Harrow Association of Voluntary Services, and is a member of Age Concern Harrow.

She is currently the first female president of the Rotary Club of Harrow, where she has organised a host of charity fundraisers.

About herself, she says: “As a woman, mother, former businesswoman and from a different ethnic background, I can relate to many people in the Harrow community and will give them 100 per cent.”

Her top priorities are:

- Listening to Local Business

Under Liberal Democrat plans, councils will regain control of business rates, reconnecting local enterprise with local politics. Local Enterprise Funds will help people invest in growing businesses in their area.

- Stanmore Station

Stanmore Station does not have access for disabled people, travelling to and from London. While the station has been recently refurbished, adding another platform, the opportunity to install a lift was missed.

Nahid has been petitioning for a lift on behalf of passengers.

- Expenses

Nahid is a firm believer that all MPs should be accountable for their expenses and that expenses should be transparent and legitimate.

Nahid believes an MP salary of approximately £64,000 is more than enough as the majority of the working population work just as hard for a lot less.

- Proportional Representation

Nahid strongly believes in Proportional Representation. The Liberal Democrats will change politics forever and end safe seats by introducing a fair, more proportional voting system for MPs and for the House of Lords.

By giving voters the choice between people as well as parties, it means they can stick with a party but punish a bad MP by voting for someone else.

- Affordable Housing

If elected, Nahid will strongly raise the problem of the ineffective affordable housing system on a national level as she believes affordable housing is essential.
