RICHARD HARROD wants to make the streets of Canons ward cleaner and safer.
He is standing as the Labour party candidate, and has pledged to improve street lighting to make people feel safer.
He said: "The fear of crime is quite considerable in Harrow. People are scared to go out on a dark evening, and we need to do something about that."
He also wants more street cleaners in shopping centres and better rubbish collections to improve the environment for Harrow residents.
Mr Harrod, 51, a former councillor in Brent, has lived in north west London all his life, and moved to Stanmore two and a half years ago.
Himself physically impaired, he has worked closely with the Harrow Association of Disabled People, and would continue to work for disabled people as a councillor.
He said: "Disabled people need access to all sorts of services, and I believe it needs to be improved."
