THE Conservative party candidate is a keen photographer who wants to help preserve the environment of Canons ward.

Husain Akhtar said: "Canons' greenery, lakes and wildlife are a photographer's dream, and I am committed to keeping it this way."

Having worked as a schools inspector for 13 years, Mr Akhtar supports faith schools because of the opportunities they offer to students and parents.

He said: "I have inspected many faith schools and, in my professional judgement, they work solidly towards community cohesion and provide well for many parents."

He has lived in Harrow for 38 years and is heavily involved in the Teenage Cancer Trust, Harrow Crime Prevention Panel and Harrow Council for Justice.

He is not concerned the Conservative vote will split between himself and former Tory Mr Borgese.

He said: "It's a democracy and people have the right to approach people for their support, but the Conservatives are in a very strong position in this ward."
