A driver who ran down two police officers who tried to speak to him has been jailed for 18 months.

Michael Wilson, 30, of Central Road, Wembley, injured the two officers and another woman when he tried to evade them in Eastcote Lane, South Harrow by ramming their car on June 22.

When officers got out of their car and approached Wilson, who was parked and waiting to move off at the junction with Alexandra Avenue, he reversed into them and then into another woman’s car.

He then raced off at speed, hitting one of the policeman again and injuring his shoulder. Both officers suffered other minor injuries and stayed behind to check on the welfare of the woman whose car had been hit.

But Wilson was arrested after police circulated his image, and at Harrow Crown Court on Thursday was jailed for 18 months and banned from driving for three years after being found guilty of dangerous driving.

Detective Inspector James McEvoy, who leads Harrow Crime Squad, labelled Wilson’s driving “reckless and extremely dangerous”.

He added: “I'm only relieved that none of my officers or members of the public were more seriously injured in this incident. We welcome this sentence handed to Wilson by the court.”

Dangerous driving seems like a let off for someone deliberately aiming at another human being with over a ton of metal.
One or both of these officers could have been killed.
Attempted murder should be the automatic charge for anyone deliberately driving into someone.

Methodman, don't be silly. The legal system is a public relations exercise designed to stop the population taking the law into their own hands. The number of crimes solved is laughable as are the published sentences. Releasing data on the actual time served would cause mass apoplexy, which is why it is not released.
