The trial of a councillor accused of trying to steal £7,000 has been delayed until next month.

Labour Councillor David Gawn, who represents Harrow-on-the-Hill, faces a charge of attempted theft from another man on or before August 5 last year, which he denies.

At Harrow Crown Court on Friday, the trial was delayed until November 5 for a case management hearing to allow the submission of further evidence.

Cllr Gawn, 35, of Lankers Drive, South Harrow, who was first elected in 2006, formed Harrow Community Radio in December 2011 with three friends at the Wealdstone Centre in High Street.

The Labour Party suspended him from the council’s Labour group earlier this year until the matter is resolved, after the allegations emerged.
