Brent Civic Centre set to become UK's greenest public building
Brent’s new Civic Centre looks set to become the UK’s greenest municipal building ever.
The new building, in Wembley’s regeneration area, has a wealth of new energy saving technology including low carbon technologies and water conservation technology.
The materials are all sustainably sourced and biodiversity on the site is being protected where possible.
Over the next six months the building will be assessed after which Brent Borough Council hopes it will be officially confirmed by the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method as the greenest public building in the country.
Councillor George Crane, lead member for regeneration and major projects, said: “I would like to thank everyone at Skanska UK and their design team who have been involved in achieving this.
“We are delighted that our partnership has produced such a fantastic result.
"The Civic Centre is a stunning development and we are looking forward to its completion, opening and occupation.”
The Civic Centre is currently being built on Engineer’s Way.
When it is finished, in 2013, the building is expected to be used by 2,000 people each day and it will become the new office for borough council employees.
