Hina Ansari has a stall in the market
North Harrow Street Market is to open again today in its new guise as a permanent, monthly fixture.
The market will be in place in Station Road and Pinner Road until October 7.
It was initially set up to boost the fortunes of North Harrow and has proved so popular that it has become a permanent fixture.
The North Harrow Street Market, in Pinner Road and Station Road, was set up by Harrow Council using Mayor of London Outer London Funding.
It was originally an occasional three day market but attracted more than 4,000 visitors.
As a result the council decided to hold the market every month.
Trader Hina Ansari, of Hatch End, who sells ethnic food at the market said: “I think it is a brilliant idea to move to a monthly three day market.
“It is a really happening area. The shops have all been very supportive.
She added: “This is my only outlet. Having a market store lets me experiment with new lines, such as barbecue food and halal hotdogs, and I can make sure I am in tune with what customers want.”
Cllr Keith Ferry, portfolio holder for planning and regeneration at Harrow Council, said: "The street market is about bringing the bustle back to North Harrow and I am delighted that it will now be a regular destination for local residents.
"Since summer 2011 the Council and traders have been working together to hold events, promote businesses and improve the look of North Harrow and these efforts are starting to bear fruit with improved footfall to the area.”
