Arrests after immigration raids find 17 living in terraced house in Wembley

Border agency officials have arrested seven people in a morning raid on a terraced house where they found 17 people living.

Officers raided the mid-terrace house in Union Road, Wembley, on Wednesday morning after receiving intelligence that people staying there may have overstayed their visas, and two men tried to flee as they entered the property.

Five Indian men, aged between 24-44, and a 49-year-old Sri Lankan man were arrested for illegally overstaying their visas, and a 42-year-old Indian woman was arrested for entering the UK illegally.

Six of those have been detained awaiting deportation, while one man was granted bail while the UK Border Agency investigates his case.
