Harrow councillor to stand trial on attempted theft charge

A councillor accused of trying to steal £7,000 will stand trial at Harrow Crown Court on Monday.

Labour Councillor David Gawn, who represents Harrow-on-the-Hill, will appear at the court to face a charge of attempted theft from another man on or before August 5 last year, which he denies.

Cllr Gawn, 35, of Lankers Drive, South Harrow, who was first elected in 2006, formed Harrow Community Radio in December 2011 with three friends at the Wealdstone Centre in High Street.

The Labour Party suspended him from the council’s Labour group earlier this year until the matter is resolved, after the allegations emerged.
