Hundreds entertained in Harrow cultural festival Showtime

Steel drummers entertained crowds in St Ann's Road. Steel drummers entertained crowds in St Ann's Road.

Hundreds of people gathered in Harrow town centre yesterday to watch musicians and street performers as part of a cultural festival.

The Reading All Steel Percussion Orchestra entertained shoppers outside the St Ann’s Centre with their steel drum performances, while street performers captivated children along St Ann’s Road.

And 15 music acts took to a stage in St John’s Road with performances including Latin jazz, pop, Indian classical, African drumming and swing from unsigned and professional groups.

Performers dressed as road workers from The Bureau of Silly Ideas surprised locals with some acrobatic moves and Osadia hairdressers produced some exotic hairstyles for a lucky few.

The free Showtime festival was part of a scheme linking all London boroughs with cultural events as part of the London 2012 Olympics.

I really enjoyed this event especially seeing the little kids dancing along to the steel pans.
