Three generations of a family who took part in a sponsored walk to raise money for a kidney charity have raised thousands of pounds.
Eight-year-old Kai Vaghela, of Elm Drive, North Harrow, his parents Minal and Bhavin, grandfather Velji Varsini and uncle Mario took part in the seven-mile walk in central London on Sunday to raise money for Kidney Research UK.
The family were inspired to take on the challenge after Kai’s grandmother Premila Varsini had a kidney transplant 30 years ago, an experience Minal said was “devastating”.
But she said the group had raised £2,100 for the charity after completing the walk on Sunday, smashing their initial £1,000 target.
She added: “It went really well – it was a shame about the weather because it rained for the first half.
“Our son kept our spirits up. I thought he would need a piggy back but he ended up having more enthusiasm than us.”
