A sixth form student at Edgware’s London Academy was amazed to find himself at a lunch with ex-US president, Bill Clinton, last week.

Yahaya Kiyingi, who is in Year 13 at the Spur Road school, recently gave a speech at a political conference where he was spotted by a wealthy Ugandan businesses man, Rumi Verjee.

Mr Verjee, a former director of Watford Football Club and founder of Domino’s Pizza, was so impressed by Mr Kiyingi’s speech that he sent him a personal invitation to a lunch party he was attending.

The businessman had sympathised with the student’s story as they are both the children of exiled Ugandan parents.

Mr Kiyingi attended the lunch party where, to his great surprise, he found himself surrounded by celebrities such as Bill Clinton.

He also thoroughly enjoyed mingling with celebrities such as Sir Trevor McDonald, Mr Jacob Rothschild, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Africa’s first self-made billionaire, William Mo Ibrahim.

In a statement the London Academy said: “We would like to congratulate Yahaya and wish him every success for his future political career.”
