Angry tube passengers are petitioning for a drop off point and a lift to be installed at Stanmore Station.

Stanmore Station, which is on the Jubilee line, has no lift access or drop off point, which has been labelled “dangerous”.

Leor Franks, who lives in The Spinney, Stanmore, said he has spent the last three years trying to persuade the Mayor’s office and Transport for London (TfL) to take action, but nothing has been done.

The 33-year-old, who takes the tube into work every day, said he was also concerned that the ramp going down to the car park, which is also used by wheelchair users and parents with prams, was too narrow.

He said: “It’s dangerous, because people using the ramp risk being injured by a car coming out or going into the car park.

“I’m too scared to take my one-year-old daughter, Mia, on the ramp in her pram in case she is hurt by an oncoming car.”

The marketing director, who lives with his wife Tamara, also added that the lack of a proper drop off point is a “hazard”.

“In between the ramps to the car park and the main car park there is a fairly large area of wasteland, and I think this could be used to develop a drop off space. That way there would be a safe place for wheelchair users and prams to get in and out of the station.”

His neighbour, Shirley Leuw, 77, said the stairs are “too steep” for her husband, Robert, because he can’t walk very far after having a brain tumour a few years ago.

She said: “He’s got a walking stick so there’s no way he can manoeuvre those stairs. I’d love to be able to take him into Central London for the day, but it’s impossible without a lift there.”

Councillor Navin Shah, GLA member for Brent and Harrow, has been lobbying the Mayor’s office for answers but says he has been given “evasive and unsatisfactory” answers about the plan for the wasteland.

The Harrow Times is awaiting comment from TfL and the Mayor’s Office.
