Woman raises money at Harrow bar for Cancer Research

A woman who organised a fundraiser to help a cancer charity, said she has been “overwhelmed” by all the donations.

Charli Fisher, 21, from Hayes, raised £145 for Cancer Research, in honour of her godfather, who was diagnosed with cancer. The money was raised at an event on Sunday, where bands gave free performances at the Trinity Bar, in Station Road, Harrow.

Charli said: “I have always been really close to my godfather Brian and I was devastated when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

"I decided I wanted to do something in support of Cancer Research and the pub said I could use their venue for free, so it all kicked off from there. It was so overwhelming to see how much everyone supported me."

Charli said she “never in a million years” expected to raise as much money.

She said: “We sold tickets at the door for £3 and in total raised £145. I never expected that in a million years, it was so nice to have everyone’s support.

" It was a double celebration too, because my godfather has just found out he is in remission.”

Pub manager Chris Perdue praised Charli for putting together an “upbeat” event.

He said: “I’m very impressed with how Charli put it all together, and there was a really good turnout. The evening was really upbeat and the bands played really well too.”

Christian Reeve, 18, who performed with his band Grievances Aside, said: “It was really great to be part of something that was for a good cause and to show our support for it. I’m glad the event managed to raise so much money — that’s a great feeling knowing you helped do that.”
