An MP for Harrow has spoken about the “incredibly moving” moment he signed the Holocaust Memorial Day Book of Commitment in Parliament.
Gareth Thomas, Labour MP for Harrow West, signed the book on Friday to pay tribute to Holocaust survivors who educate young people about their experiences through the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Outreach programme.
He said: “It was an incredibly moving experience. It is also an opportunity for people to think about the huge amount of people who lost their lives and pay respects to them.
"It is crucial that we learn the lessons of the past and commit to speaking up and speaking out against prejudice today.”
Mr Thomas also thinks it is vital to educate the younger generation about the horrors of the Holocaust.
“We need to look forward to the future and ensure our children are being taught tolerance for other races, because they are the future.”
Karen Pollock, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said: “We are proud that Gareth is supporting Holocaust Memorial Day this year.
"It is vitally important that we both remember and learn from the appalling events of the Holocaust, as well as ensuring we continue to challenge all forms of bigotry.”
