A SUPERMARKET chain is hoping to rebuild its Tottenham store which was burned to the ground during last year's riots.
Aldi Stores Ltd has submitted a bid for planning permission to make the shop in High Road rise from the ashes.
The Aldi was one of many buildings set on fire during rioting in Tottenham in August, as hoards of people roamed the streets smashing into shops, setting fire to cars and businesses, and wreaking havoc.
Plans handed to Haringey Council outlined two options – to rebuild the superstore as it was or to build a redesigned, standalone shop.
Fitness First has also put in a planning application to return to the site with a new building.
Aldi is the first major firm to submit plans to rebuild its business in Tottenham following the riots.
However, the council is hoping CarpetRight will follow suit and return to the town.
Aldi's application was lodged last month, and will be decided on by councillors once officers have made their assessment.
