A GARDEN centre is launching a Wild Bird Care Fortnight this month to share tips about how to care for garden birds this winter.

Harrow Garden Centre, in Headstone Lane, will start teaching visitors on Saturday, October 15, how to make their gardens bird-friendly in the colder months.

A competition for three to seven-year-olds and eight to 14-year-olds will also be launched and prizes will given for the best drawings of wild birds.

A variety of bird feeders, an eight-kilo box of seed mix and a certificate will be awarded to the winner of each category.

Children can also take part in a spot the bird hunt around the garden centre.

The event aims to raise awareness for national Feed the Birds Day as part of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) on Saturday, October 29.

The event will run until Sunday, October 30, and will include displays of plants, bird baths, tables, feeders and wild bird food.
