A BOREHAMWOOD pensioner was handed 20 months in jail burying his father's body in a shallow grave in the back garden.

Michael Jachimowicz, 69, dumped the remains of his frail, Polish born father Hierinom, 87, known as Henry, under some paving stones at his Furzehill Road home with a note claiming it was the old man’s wish.

But he even gave the family dog a better send off with a wooden casket and many layers of plastic containing cut flowers wrapped around the canine’s remains.

Jachimowicz was jailed by a judge at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, September 2.

His father is thought to have died in March, 2005, based on the date of a milk bottle containing the note written by his son.

The note said: "Henry's dying wish was to be buried with all the things that made his life worth living viz: his beloved wire hair fox terrier (3 buried in this garden), his wonderful bees (6 hives here) and his glorious garden of 20 fruit trees."

It added: "All my love and lifelong respect. God be with you. Signed Michael (his only son). PS I write this with tears in my eyes."
