TWO childhood friends are celebrating a spread of top GCSE results at the Notting Hill Carnival this bank holiday weekend.

Demi Spencer, 16, and Rianna Lowdell, 16, have known each other since they were three and opened their envelopes at St Thomas More catholic school, in Wood Green, yesterday.

Demi got five A*s, three As, two Bs and two Cs while Rianna got an A*, two As two Bs a C and a creative and media diploma equivalent to seven GCSE B grades and an A grade.

The pair are going to the carnival, which runs from Sunday to Monday and is the biggest in Europe, to celebrate their success.

Rianna said: “I didn’t think I’d do this well, I’m really shocked. I was a bit anxious I suppose waiting for my results but I wasn’t nervous.

“I was excited to see how I’d done, I’m just so pleased – I worked really hard.”

Keneca Roach, 16, was also celebrating after getting three A* and six As, while Michael Hart, 16, got three As, three Bs, a C and a D and said he wanted to frame his certificate.

He said: “I’m going to stay in education and do my A-levels but I’m not sure about any other study. Sometimes if an opportunity comes up to get a job, you’ve got to take it.

“I’m happy with my results. I want to be happy in my life and this has made me happy.”
