A DAD is calling for more support for children with epilepsy from a hospitals trust covering Enfield and Barnet.

Scott Liddle, 38, is campaigning for a specialist nurse at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust to help youngsters like his son Thomas who have the condition.

The three-year-old has been experiencing seizures since he was four months old and needs constant supervision putting huge pressure on Mr Liddle and his wife Sarah, 33.

The Barnet resident, of Ridgeview Road, Whetstone, said current medical staff do the best job they can but the shortage of support means they are left feeling “overwhelmed, stressed and isolated”.

He said: “What an epilepsy specialist nurse would do would be a more accessible point of contact for parents to discuss the care of their child.

“It would mean that newly diagnosed children and their parents would not need to go through what we have had to go through as they will have someone there to support them and provide a better level of care for their child.”

He added: “Barnet and Chase Farm already funds a paediatric allergy nurse and a diabetes nurse but not epilepsy, even though it has a higher rate of mortality.”

The family want a nurse who is easier to reach and more able to provide the support they need to make their lives easier and they have been gathering support from other parents across the two boroughs.

Mr Liddle also runs a casual support group for parents. Anyone who wants to take part or support his campaign can contact him by emailing scottyliddle@hotmail.com.
