HARROW Council youth workers joined the police yesterday evening to support patrolling the streets in the area.

A joint statement was released this morning from Harrow Borough Commander, Chief Superintendent Dal Babu, Harrow Council chief executive, Michael Lockwood, and the council’s leader, Councillor Bill Stephenson, to say the borough had escaped the trouble of riots across London for another night.

This comes after the Metropolitan Police Service put out extra resources on duty across the capital.

The statement said: “The borough of Harrow remained quiet last night with no incidents of disturbance.

“Up to 280 police officers were on duty in the borough supported by a further 25 special officers. In a show of community strength, the police were also supported by Harrow Council youth workers who took part in regular patrols of the borough.

“The council and police are working to monitor the situation and we are well prepared to deal with problems should they arise.

"All police leave has been cancelled to ensure that we retain our strong police presence.

"We know that this is a worrying time for all residents but we want to stress we are doing everything to ensure our streets remain safe.

“We are asking all parents to make sure they know where their children are. Parents and guardians have a responsibility to keep them out of harms way.”
