FOOTBALLERS have been awarded medals by a former Tottenham manager at a charity football tournament.

The Nia Champions League set off to a great start on Sunday June 26 at 12pm at The Hive Football Centre, in Camrose Avenue, Canons Park.

Peter Shreeves, former Tottenham manager and Terry Mcquade, ex-Millwall footballer attended the tournament that saw six-a-side teams battling to qualify for Nia Champions League cup and the Europa cup.

The tournament raised approximately £2,300 for Nia Children’s Foundation, a charity dedicated to providing help and care to children in some of the poorest parts of Africa.

Mr Mcquade, Mr Shreeves and his son refereed for the matches and gave players tips and advice on the day.

Shezmin Madhani, founder of the charity, said: “It was a really good day and we raised double the amount of money than we did last year, which is great. Peter done a great job at refereeing the games and is always very friendly and helpful.

“The players really enjoyed gaining advice and tips from a professional.”

The charity has received generous amounts of support through sponsorships and Holiday Inn and Treats and Snax group came along to the tournament. The winners that went through were a team from Edgware called Monsters Inc.
