THE Kodak site could be a catalyst for the transformation of Wealdstone, according to developers.
The future of one of the largest areas set for development in the borough has been a mystery for Harrow residents for years but slowly its fate is starting to take shape.
A consultation has been done with residents, which saw many say they see Wealdstone as a “run down”, “shabby” area with poor shops and a problem with crime.
No concrete proposals have been drawn up yet but Andy Martin, representing developer Land Securities, said he believes Kodak could be what residents want – the first step to transforming the town.
He told the Harrow Times: “The redevelopment of the Kodak site could be a catalyst in improving things.
“It can make a big difference by hopefully setting a really high standard for everything else that comes.
“It's a big site and you have got to get it right. That's why the open space is important as well as the buildings.”
He said a lot of people love the area and mentioned Headstone Manor as a local landmark particularly cherished by the community.
The company is still consulting with residents and is arranging a series of workshops due to take place between February 21 and 28.
