KEN Livingstone took to the streets of Harrow for a mobility scooter procession yesterday morning.

The ex-London mayor joined Harrow's own mayor Councillor Asad Omar for the event, held to mark the International Day for Older People.

The rally started outside Mobility World, in Station Road, and snaked its way down to South Harrow before coming back to the town centre.

Despite bad weather bystanders stood on and cheered participants as they made their way along the course.

Cllr Omar said: “Everyone who took part braved the rain to be involved with this challenge - it shows the great community spirit there is in Harrow.

“The procession of mobility scooters is sure to have raised awareness.

“It was also a great opportunity for residents to celebrate older people in our community while highlighting the mobility challenges people of all ages and backgrounds face.”

Mr Livingstone will fight to regain his former job from Boris Johnson in the 2012 mayoral elections having recently won the nomination as Labour candidate.
