HARROW's top fireman is urging residents to watch out for kitchen fires days after a blaze gutted part of a Hatch End restaurant.
The London Fire Brigade revealed the borough was hit by 310 kitchen fires in the past five years and almost 60 people were injured as a result.
The statistics, released earlier this week, come after a blaze at The Hakka Swan, in Uxbridge Road, wrecked the kitchen and sent ten people fleeing from flats above on Sunday at around 6pm.
A further ten had to be rescued from the restaurant itself.
Nick O’Reilly, London Fire Brigade’s Borough Commander for Harrow, said: “Kitchen fires are a real concern for us and the most frustrating thing is that they can usually be prevented. Simple mistakes often lead to serious fires.
“Most people think it won’t happen to them but the figures speak for themselves. It can happen and it has to over 300 people in our borough.”
