FOUR people were forced to flee a Wembley house after it caught fire on Tuesday.

Half the first floor and a portion of the roof were damaged as the blaze raged in the two storey mid-terraced building, in Tokyngton Avenue just before 11pm.

Around four fire engines and 20 firefighters took just more than half an hour to get the flames under control, and one of the four residents was treated for smoke inhalation.

Stuart Smith, crew manager at Wembley Fire Station, said: “The house was fitted with working smoke alarms on both floors which sounded when the fire started.

“This gave the occupiers an early warning and enough time to escape the fire uninjured. This fire highlights how important it is to have working smoke alarms.

“They only cost a fiver and are easy to fit. We can even fit them for you, all you need to do is arrange a home fire safety visit by calling us for free on 0800 028 44 28.”

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
