THE Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating the death of a man killed by a train in Enfield Lock.

Twenty-year-old Mircea Adam, also known as Bobi Rostas, was hit by a train at around 5.30pm after a police chase on Monday.

When the Mercedes he was travelling in stopped at the level crossing, the father of three from Ireland leaped over the closed barrier and was struck by the Stansted Express.

The chase started in Bullsmoor Lane after three special constables on patrol in a marked police vehicle saw the Mercedes stop at the junction with Bullsmoor Ride.

The officers decided to carry out an insurance check on the vehicle and activated their blue lights to signal the car to stop.

The Mercedes pulled over and it is believed the driver got out of the car, but then got back in and drove off.

Police activated the siren and pursued the vehicle from Bullsmoor Lane, along Hertford Road to Ordnance Road.

The Mercedes gained some distance but stopped at the Enfield Lock railway station level crossing, which had the barriers down.

The driver and Mr Adam, who was the front seat passenger, got out of the Mercedes and jumped over the barrier.

The driver narrowly missing being hit by the train, but Mr Adam was struck and killed.

The driver and backseat passenger were both arrested and have been bailed to return in September.

The MPS referred the case to the IPCC and an investigator assessed the evidence.

CCTV shows the police vehicle was around 20ft behind the Mercedes when the collision took place.

Because officers had been pursuing the Mercedes for around 90 seconds, the IPCC decided to investigate whether the actions of the officers were appropriate and whether MPS and national pursuit policies were followed.
