Cycling for ovarian cancer charity

Last week I met Sraavan Alopi, Drijen Shah and Prinay Jogi from the Sai School in Harrow to discuss some projects they are working on which will help Harrow Police.

In particular we discussed the impact of new legislation around joint enterprise. In essence, joint enterprise means that, if people are in the company of a person who commits a serious crime of violence, they can also be held responsible for that criminal act.

The young people are going to produce three short plays on crime which will be recorded onto a DVD which Harrow Police will use as an important crime prevention and awareness tool.

I will be going on annual leave this week and part of my break will involve me cycling from London to Paris. I will be travelling with my very good friend, Andrew Edwards and my 16-year-old daughter Shanti.

We will be supporting The Mayor of Harrow, Councillor Asad Omar's chosen charity, Ovarian Cancer Action.

I remember the Mayor speaking extremely movingly about his late wife (who died last year from ovarian cancer) when he was made Mayor of Harrow. He said then that he was determined to raise awareness of ovarian cancer amongst women.

This is a really worthwhile cause and increasing awareness will help save lives.

Harrow Police work very closely with the Mayor and this is just a small way to thank him for all the time and effort he puts into helping the community.

Shanti is really looking forward to this adventure. We have been training for the past few months and she is the envy of all her friends.

An excellent idea to have the three short plays recorded on DVD and shown to other young folk, as a crime prevention tool, by Harrow Police.

Not much is known about "joint enterprise"and the effects of the new legislation around it.These DVDs will help educate everyone.

The Sai School of Harrow often arranges excellent projects on a number of topics. The initiative by some students to produce these DVDs is bound to be one that benefits many, particularly on a topic of much importance affecting our youth. We applaud their efforts and look forward to the finished product.

Our best wishes to the Borough Commander, his friend and teenage daughter as they pedal away to Paris on August 18,to support our Mayor's Charity. What a great role model young Shanti is and an excellent advertisement for todays youth.

Please donate generously and support Ovarian Cancer Action.Thanks.
