This week I was very pleased to see how committed volunteers are to help making Harrow Borough a safe and secure place to live in.
Ken Dacosta is a remarkable individual who, as a 18 - year - old was one of the original "Bevin Boys", working as a miner during the Second World War.
In 1978, he was awarded the Chevalier Order of Leopold, the equivalent of a Belgian knighthood, for his work with the government.
Ken has been a volunteer at Pinner Police Station for the past two years and was presented with an award at South Harrow Police Station this week.
On the other end of the age scale we have 21 - year - old Claire Kirrane who gives up much of her free time helping the Harrow Police Cadets and is also a Neighbourhood Champion. Despite all her volunteering, Claire still manages to have a very active social life.
If you are interested in volunteering to help make Harrow safer, please email janis.anderson@met.police.uk and Janis will be able to discuss potential volunteering opportunities with Harrow Police.
Harrow Police have finished planning Operation Chapell which is a month - long initiative to deal with crime in and around our transport hubs in Harrow.
PC Mark Winstanley has worked tirelessly with the Head of Intelligence, Sunil Galoria to plan this initiative and I am expecting some good results from all the officers involved in the operation which starts on Monday 9 August.
If you have any information on criminal activity in and around Harrow please call police on 0300 123 1212 or call Crimestoppers anonymously.
