A SEVENTH park in Enfield is celebrating this week after being awarded Green Flag status.

Trent Park will now join Enfield Town, Forty Hall, Jubilee, Pymmes, Grovelands and Oakwood parks in being among the best in the country.

The Green Flag Scheme is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England. Awards are given on an annual basis following a thorough examination by external judges.

Parks are judged on how clean, safe and welcoming they are, as well as their value to the community.

It is also important they are committed to sustainability and conservation, and are well managed.

Councillor Chris Bond, cabinet member for the environment, said: “I am delighted to hear that Trent Park has gained a Green Flag.

"To gain an award requires extremely high standards and each application is judged on its own merits.

“I would like to thank local residents, the Friends of Trent Park and all the parks staff for joining together to help gain this meritable award.

“What never ceases to amaze me is that whatever time of year you visit Trent Park, in whatever weather, it is always busy. When we went down there the playground was full of children having fun.

“Let’s hope the new Green Flag brings even more visitors to Trent Park.”

Trent Park has a rich and colourful history. The last owner, Sir Philip Sassoon, held parties at the park frequented by A-list guests, including Winston Churchill and Lawrence of Arabia.
