Harrow Weald flytippers caught on CCTV

A BROTHER and sister caught dumping sacks of rubbish at the back of a Harrow Weald chemist have been fined.

Lavinia and Ian Fernandez were caught on CCTV unloading the bags of garden waste, wood, and fencing materials in April last year and abandoning them.

But the dozy flytippers had left behind among the rubbish documents linking them to the crime via Mr Fernandez's cleaning company LMF Solutions.

They denied the offences, but a jury at Harrow Crown Court found them guilty on Wednesday, July 22.

Both Miss Fernandez, 38, of Radcliffe Road, Harrow, and her brother, a plumber, of Kenton Lane, Harrow, were given conditional discharges, and they were ordered to pay £100 costs each.

Brendon Hills, corporate director for community and environment at Harrow Council, said after sentencing: “These two people denied any wrong doing throughout the trial, but the evidence against them was so strong, the jury found them guilty and they now have a criminal record.”

"given conditional discharges, and they were ordered to pay £100 costs each."
Is this a joke? Far better to confiscate their van and reduce it to a 1 foot cube!

I agree, a joke, how much must it cost the court to operate and bring the people to justice, these should be big fines!

If they fail to pay the £100? Mmmm, that's a difficult one. No, I've got it, like most unpaid penalties (and they are the great majority) nothing. The law is a ****.

£100 fine what a joke got of lightly leaving the tax payer to foot the clean up bill and court bill

What a "waste" of time. What is the point of Harrow Council taking these people to court when in return they get such a lenient sentance, what sort of message are the courts giving to the public when they pass a sentence like this. "Fly Tipping under section 33 of the environmental protection act 1990 carriers a maximum fine of £50,000 and or up to six months in prison!!!

"They denied the offences" - I think a letter to the council is in order to request something more then a £100 payment.
No one listens to us here. But someone needs to kick ****.

As they live in Harrow and Kenton the trip tp the Kenmore dump is no distance at all and they had a van to transport the rubbish.

Why fly tip at all?

Let the punishment fit the crime and let them work for Harrow Council for free clearing up all the fly tips in the Borough.

This is typical of the way our money is being wasted. These 'flytippers' are residents of Harrow and should be entitled to use the waste facilities Harrow has to offer. Because they are driving a van they are denied that right. Surely everyone should be entitled and encouraged to bring waste to the local dump without restriction. All waste could then be properly re-cycled and allocated and all waste disposal amenities should cross borough boundaries without the stupid and costly restrictions now placed by councils. These 'fly tippers' have a criminal record for nothing. Harrow and other boroughs could save all the money they are employing to 'catch' fly tippers if they allowed everyone to bring their rubbish to the dump, commercial or household. Stop making criminals out of residents.
