Harrow Police work very closely with Harrow Council to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and this week we have carried out one of our regular "weeks of action" on Roxeth Ward.
This involves Harrow Police and Harrow Council identifying a specific geographical area with a particular challenge and then targeting that area with the necessary resources to meet those challenges.
The Roxeth and Roxbourne Safer Neighbourhoods Teams and Trading Standards Officers from Harrow Council raided a number of premises and seized a substantial amount of suspected counterfeit vodka.
The Safer Neighbourhoods Teams have been conducting some overt filming which has deterred anti - social behaviour.
This will be that last operation that Sergeant Jon Myers, (ably assisted by the ever-reliable PC Matt Hunt and PC Emma Kennedy) leads, as he is about to move from the Roxeth Safer Neighbourhoods Team to manage the wanted/missing unit at South Harrow Police station.
I am an elected member of the Police Superintendents' Association of England and Wales and attended the national executive meeting this week. This was a great opportunity for me to talk to colleagues throughout England and Wales.
What was clear to me as I spoke to my colleagues was that the entire police service still believes that the communities are at the heart of any solutions to crime reduction.
This has not changed since the creation of the Metropolitan Police Service in 1829, when the founder and former Harrow schoolpupil Robert Peel said:
“The police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.”
