Policing of Pinner Fair praised

The local police are held to account by the community - in Harrow, we have the Harrow Police Community Consultative Group (HPCCG), which is chaired by the formidable Mrs Sonoo Malkani.

Sonoo oversees the scrutiny of Harrow Police and this includes asking challenging questions around our policy and tactics.

Very sadly, Jenny Wilson, the long-serving publicity officer for the HPCCG died last week - Jenny Wilson will be a huge loss to our community. Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.

This year, Chief Inspector Nigel Crane was responsible for the policing of Pinner Fair.

This was a remarkably well run event, attended by approximately 20,000 people with pleasingly, the lowest recorded level of crime for many years.

Chief Inspector Crane's policing plan ensured we utilised half the police resources this year compared with last year and placed emphasis on the private companies who run the rides to pay for security and road traffic management.

This week saw the launch of the Wealdstone Anti-Social Behaviour Partnership (WASP) Team.

This unit will work closely with Harrow Council's Youth Service and will focus on reducing anti-social behaviour in the Wealdstone area.

WASP was launched by Gareth Thomas MP and will be led by Sergeant Ed Baildon.

I am very pleased with this initiative which will see more front line resources directed to one of our more challenging areas.
