A WEMBLEY man who pummeled an elderly internet café worker during a robbery was jailed for nine years on Friday.

Nathan Sommerville, of Preston Road, attacked the employee as his accomplice kicked in a glass cabinet full of mobile phone handsets on May 16, last year.

The victim had to spend three days in hospital after several blows to the face from the 21-year-old left him with serious injuries.

Sommerville and his friend fled Crazy Connections Internet Café, in Neasden, with mobile phones worth around £1,000 in total but the robber was found because he had been in just days earlier to have his own phone repaired.

The business had a record of his number and detectives used it to trace the address of the owner.

DC Peter Warburton, from the Brent Police Violent Crime Unit, said: “This was a planned robbery by Nathan Sommerville during which he used unnecessary violence on the elderly and vulnerable shop worker.

“The substantial custodial sentence he was given reflected the seriousness of the offence.”

Sommerville was handed the sentence by a judge at Harrow Crown Court.
