An £8million plan to rebuild Northwood and Pinner Hospital has been welcomed by health campaigners.

The proposal from Primary Medical Property is to rebuild the hospital and the on-site health centre.

Primary Medical Property is a health service development company responsible for rebuilding more than 50 hospitals nationwide.

The offer has been welcomed by community associations following the proposed shake-up of west London health services, which suggests the closure of Harefield Hospital.

Northwood and Pinner Development Committee chairman Mike Turner said the proposal was great news.

'This proposal opens a new vista for health services.'

Hillingdon Primary Care Trust chief executive David Panter has prepared a feasibility study on the proposal for public consultation.

If the proposal is agreed, it is expected building will begin early next year. During construction patient services at the hospital in Pinner Road will be temporarily moved to nearby Mount Vernon Hospital.
