April 4, 2001 14:06: Health chiefs are discussing whether to spend millions of pounds on refurbishing Pinner Community Hospital.

Northwood and Pinner has been earmarked by Harrow West Primary Care Group as an ideal location for an intermediate care centre for patients.

Hillingdon Primary Care Trust is waiting for a review of the Hillingdon Health economy to be completed before pressing ahead with detailed planning of a £8-£15 million refurbishment of the hospital.

Minister of State for Health, John Hutton, who opened the newly refurbished A&E department at Northwick Park Hospital on Wednesday last week, met with James Kineaid of the Pinner Association and Gareth Thomas, MP for Harrow West.

Mr Thomas said: "I was pleased to bring to John's attention the need to now accelerate detailed planning on what is a crucial health development for people in Pinner."
