A DISGRACED Brent councillor has resigned her position on the body that runs London Fire Brigade.

Tory councillor Bertha Joseph is understood to have quit the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority after being embroiled in a donation scandal.

The Kensal Green representative is currently suspended from Brent Council after she used charity donations to buy a ball gown and failed to declare two cash gifts totaling £900 in time.

The breaches happened during her time as Mayor of Brent in 2006/07, and although she has continued to deny any wrongdoing, her appeals against the six-month suspension were dismissed.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson came under pressure to sack Cllr Joseph following her suspension, but refused to do so immediately, saying he would give her two weeks to present her case.

The two weeks have now expired, and she has quit before Mr Johnson had to make a decision whether or not to fire her.

Cllr Joseph has, however, asserted her desire to continue on Brent Council, and will be standing as a Conservative at the May elections.

She insists the charges of misconduct against her are a smear campaign launched by her political rivals after she defected from Labour to the Tories in 2007.
