A FIRE last night tore through a Pinner flat where there were no smoke alarms.
A man and a woman were forced to flee the two-storey home, in Bridge Street, as the blaze damaged around 60 per cent of the first floor, at around 9pm.
They were taken to hospital by ambulance.
Paul O’Shea, watch manager at Harrow Fire Station, said: “There were no smoke alarms in the flat. We’d advise everyone to ensure they have a working smoke alarm on every level of their home.
“An alarm is the easiest way to alert you to the danger of fire, giving you precious time to escape. They are cheap, easy to get hold of and easy to fit.”
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were rushed to the scene at around 9.10pm and had the fire under control by 10.50pm.
The cause is under investigation.
