A JUNIOR minister visited Harrow yesterday to see how £35m of government money has been used to rebuild a school.
Diana Johnson, schools minister, praised the project to replace Whitmore High School, in Porlock Avenue, funded in part with £35m of government money.
The cash was granted through a national scheme called building schools for the future and headteacher Susan Hammond made the case for further investment in the borough.
Ms Johnson said: “I think the visit was very positive. It was good to hear from the teachers. They seem to be working in a very collaborative way.
“I've agreed to go back to the department and see what we can do to help. We have to wait for the general election. My government has made it clear that we need to continue investment for schools.”
She was joined by Harrow MPs Gareth Thomas (Lab/Harrow West) and Tony McNulty (Lab/Harrow East) as they were shown the new buildings, due to be finished by July and opened in September.
Ms Hammond said: “I was very happy to show the minister and the MPs around and demonstrate the great progress we've made on this project.
“I'm hopeful that this will provide further reasons for investment in Harrow schools.”
