A HARROW MP has hit out at a road safety advert, claiming it “glorifies bank robberies”.
Tony McNulty attacked the Transport for London television advert, which has been designed to make drivers more aware of cyclists.
It features a bank robbery, which ends when the getaway car pulls out in front of a cyclist, and the Labour MP for Harrow East wrote on his Twitter page yesterday: “Just seen appalling TfL advert - glorifies an armed bank robbery - but is about seeing cyclists on the road.
“What planet are they on?”
The advert can be viewed by clicking the link below.
The advert, which has been going out at primetime on ITV1, Channel 4, and FIVE, is part of a joint campaign between TfL and the Mayor of London promoting cycle safety.
The advert is described by TfL as “powerful” and “edgy”, and comes with the strapline “The more you look out for something, the more obvious it becomes”.
Mr McNulty is a recent convert to Twitter, having first posted on February 3 this year, and has gathered 181 followers.
He is one of a number of politicians in Harrow who have recently embraced the power of the Internet to connect with voters.
