Devoted to tackling crime

I AM very pleased to have been given the opportunity to communicate with readers of the Harrow Times through a regular blog.

As Harrow Borough Commander, I have overall responsibility for managing approximately 700 Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers, Police Staff, Special Constables and Volunteers. Harrow Borough is one of the most diverse London boroughs and I am proud to say that it is also one of the safest boroughs in the capital. I want to ensure that with your help and assistance it remains safe.

During the winter months we face challenges in terms of tackling burglary. Most burglars are opportunistic with over half of all burglaries occurring through open doors or unlocked windows. Please ensure you lock your doors and windows. Over the coming weeks Harrow Police have additional police resources devoted to to reducing burglary.

Territorial Support Group Officers will be conducting Automatic Number Plate Reading (ANPR) Operations in Harrow alongside local officers. This will involve the instant checking of registration numbers of motor vehicles against database of vehicles linked to crime or criminals. I am pleased to say that a similar operation staged last week on the Borough resulted in four arrests, after a car that was stolen from a Harrow address was identified.

I will be completing this blog on a weekly basis and keep you updated on the key challenges facing us in Harrow. For crime prevention advice please speak to your local Safer Neighbourhoods Team, whose details can be found at www.met.police.uk
