BRENT youngsters will brighten up the festive season with Olympic-themed lanterns which will hang from Christmas trees this December.
The LED-powered lanterns, all made from recycled plastic milk bottles, will hang from 20ft trees outside Brent Town Hall, Forty Lane.
Cultural elements of the Olympics such as excellence, respect and friendship will be the focus of the designs.
Councillor Irwin Van Colle, responsible for environment, culture and planning, said: “Just as the Olympic torch represents peace, these lanterns will represent the peace and harmony that exists in the Brent community.”
Schools that have taken part include Roe Green Primary School, St Margaret Clitherow RC Primary School, Preston Park Primary School and Leopold Primary School.
Those who wish to make their own lantern can download a template and instructions from www.brent.gov.uk/whatson.
