Pinner Pantomime Evening 2009 had a 'fantastic atmosphere'

HUNDREDS of residents filled the streets of Pinner for its annual Christmas celebration last night.

Shop staff dressed up in costumes while the Harrow Young Musicians Soul Band provided music, and a firework display in Pinner Memorial Park rounded off Pinner Pantomime Evening at 8.15pm.

Terry Farr, of Friend's Restaurant, dressed up in a Peter Pan costume to serve roast lamb and sausage baguettes.

He said: “As usual there's a fantastic atmosphere, everybody's got a smile on their face. I feel very proud just to see this still going strong after 16 years when it was started over a cup of coffee in this restaurant some way through 1993.

“At the end of the day it's a fantastic occasion and a great showcase for Pinner which is why we did it in the first place.”

Around 500 Pinner school pupils took part in the event with choirs singing throughout the night.

There were also men on stilts, morris dancers and fairground rides.

Vicky Jeeves, 38, of Woodford Crescent, in Pinner, took children Adam, 8, and Amy, 5.

She said: “It's been good fun. It's nice to be able to walk up and down the street and the kids have loved it. The rides are nice.”

Cynthia Wells, of the Pinner Association, said: “It's going very well. There's such a nice atmosphere. You can just see all the kids and parents and mums and dads enjoying themselves.

“We had more children performing this year. They all want to join in.”
