A SECOND attempt by an anti-Islam group to protest in Harrow is a “blatant attempt to cause chaos”, a Muslim leader has said.

Stop the Islamisation of Europe (SIOE) has announced its intention to demonstrate outside Harrow Central Mosque, and leader Stephen Gash has claimed the mosque is “radicalising” its members.

Ghulam Rabbani, general secretary of the mosque, in Station Road, told the Harrow Times the history of the borough's Muslim community speaks for itself.

He said: “We are obviously dismayed by such moves from SIOE and this blatant attempt to once again cause chaos and provoke the Harrow community.

“We have no need to refute any remarks made by this organisation or any other as our long record of being in Harrow and our relationships with other faith communities, the police, and the council speaks for itself.

“We agree that a united stand against such provocation should be made by all parties in Harrow.”

SIOE is planning to protest on December 13, after its September 11 demonstration failed to happen because more than 1,000 people filled the streets to try to oppose anti-Muslim demonstrations.

The threat of another protest by SIOE has prompted senior politicians to speak out, opposing the plans and trying to dissuade Mr Gash from bringing his supporters in December.

Mr Gash declined to fully answer questions from the Harrow Times when contacted about the protest, claiming this paper has “suspect motives” and is “far from impartial”.

He also accused the Harrow Times of “censoring” his comments to put him in a bad light.
