A 40-year-old woman apparently committed suicide in front of a train at South Harrow Tube station on Sunday.
It is believed that she climbed down from the platform and lay on the tracks.
Police and paramedics were called to the station in Northolt Road just after 3.30pm.
The woman, who is believed to have been from Cricklewood, was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to Northwick Park Hospital's mortuary.
Her death is not being treated as suspicious. A relative was present at the scene, and her next of kin have been informed.
Paramedics who atteneded the incident were unable to confirm reports carried in a national newspaper that bystanders tried to take photographs of the scene with their camera mobile phones.
The newspaper reported that had hindered the rescue operation, despite Tube staff trying to clear the platform, and stopped only when police arrived at the scene.
Picadilly Line services were suspended between Acton Town and Rayners Lane from 3.34pm until 4.58pm.
