A LORRY driver is being questioned in connection with a crash in Stanmore Broadway this afternoon which left a pensioner in hospital with serious injuries.
The lorry is thought to have a hit the man, believed to be in his 70s, as he tried to cross the main road on his mobility scooter at around 1.15pm.
Police investigators are treating the accident as a hit-and-run incident, but are questioning the driver over whether he knew he had hit the scooter, on the road near to Pizza Express.
The lorry did not stop at the scene, but officers tracked it down shortly after the accident. The driver has not been arrested.
The pensioner was airlifted to hospital after the crash where he remains in a serious condition.
Officers at the scene have cordoned off the Broadway between Stanmore Hill and Marsh Lane to investigate, and have put up a blue tent around the area where the crash happened.
The mobility scooter remains propped up against the wall, and forensics team are en route to search the area for clues about the cause of the crash.
Police have asked anyone who witnesses the accident to call Alperton Collision Unit on 0300 123 1212.
