VISITORS from France are in Harrow this weekend to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the borough's twinning with Douai.

Harrow became exchange partners with the northern French town in 1979, when then Mayor of Harrow Freddie Sellers decided the borough should do more to integrate with its foreign neighbours.

The partnership now involves exchange trips for schools, doctors, librarians, and churches, and sporting matches between Douai and Harrow.

The anniversary will be celebrate on Saturday with a ceremonial signing of the accord by the Mayors of Harrow and Douai followed by dinner at Friends Restaurant in Pinner.

On Sunday, Councillor John Nickolay, Mayor of Harrow, is hosting a traditional English tea party in Harrow Museum at Headstone Manor for the French dignitaries.
