A UFO mystery has been solved after an Edgware woman was deluged with calls from interested stargazers.

Swati Singh, 40, filmed a mysterious light hovering outside her bedroom window on Sunday, June 29, suspecting it could be something out of the ordinary.

She got in contact with the Harrow Times and we featured her spooky footage of the light as it hovered eerily over Stanmore Park on our website.

Several people called her and explained that the light is Jupiter, which can be seen at certain times of the year.

She said: "Jupiter can be seen from Earth when looking southwards.

"I got excited because it was a bright light hovering and I couldn't explain it.

"People are not aware that Jupiter can be seen, and I think it is interesting."

Mrs Singh filmed the light on two more occasions after her initial sighting, and she is now going to be interviewed by Channel 4 for a documentary about UFO sightings.

She said: "Apparently 95 per cent of sightings can be explain, which is something I didn't know before this."

It is really good to see the local press setting an example to the national tabloids by publishing updates to stories when new information becomes available. The Sun web site still carries this story as a 'UFO'.
Also, Kudos to Mrs. Singh for being open-minded enough to accept a valid explanation when it is offered - I have seen many cases where witnesses refuse to accept rational explanations when they exist.

hmmm ... a "rational" explanation? Or, a more acceptable explanation, because it fits into what we already know? The U in UFO means Unknown.

There is a flight path that crosses the Edgware area from North wets to south east. As the aircraft use their landing lights and are at high altitude they can be seem to hover for a number of minutes in one position for a long time before they appear to be moving, all you will notice is that the light gets slightly higher as time passes.

Not in this case - through talking to the witness, eliciting more details about the appearance, time, duration and direction of the report, Jenny Randles was able both to conclude and convince the witness that this was a sighting of Jupiter. No need for aliens, fairies, angels, demons, or even aircraft.
